Service Fees Policies

To enable Tripitaca to run its operations smoothly and to cover the costs of the products and services we provide, we charge a service fee when a booking is confirmed and also charge a monthly subscription fee for the use of premium features

Fees for booking a place to stay

We currently have one service fee structures for booking a place to stay: split-fee where both hosts and guests pay a service fee.

Split-fee

Here a service fee is deducted from the host payout, and a service fee is charged to guests.

Guest service/booking fee

Guests pay a service fee of 4% of the booking subtotal (the nightly rate plus cleaning fee and additional guest fee, if applicable, but excluding Tripitaca fees and taxes). The fee varies based on a variety of booking factors and is displayed to guests, including during checkout before they book a reservation.

Host service fee

Hosts pay a service fee of 4%. This fee is calculated from the booking subtotal (the nightly rate plus cleaning fee and additional guest fee, if applicable, but excluding Homes & Cribs fees and taxes) and is automatically deducted from the host payout.

Subscription Fee

Hosts pay a subscription fee of 50$ on a monthly basis to access premium features that are not available on a basic account for example: Counter offer feature. The fee is payable on a monthly basis and once paid, the features are automatically enabled for premium accounts.

To review the service fee charged for a particular booking:

  1. Go to Wallet under Hosts Dashboard.
  2. Select details under Total Earnings.
  3. Next to the reservation that you want to review, select the “details”.
  4. Under Earnings, you’ll find the Tripitaca Fee.

Taxes on service fees

Where required by applicable laws of the Republic of Kenya, taxes including VAT may be charged on top of the host and guest service fee. The service fee will include these taxes charges when applicable.
